CBSE Class 10 Syllabus 2021-22

There’s a very real possibility of another covid wave hitting India soon. Keeping this in mind, the CBSE Board has revised the syllabus and published a reduced syllabus for classes 9 to 12. The decision was made according to the new ‘Assessment Policy 2021-22’ issued earlier this month. In this blog post, we’ll look at the revised syllabus for CBSE class 10 Math. We’ll also look at the important topics that students should focus on along with some preparation tips.

Due to the pandemic, the CBSE Board has reduced the syllabus by 30% for the second year in a row. Also, to avoid a total cancellation of board exams like last year, the academic session 2021-22 is divided into two terms. We’ll take a look at what’s covered in term-1 and term-2 later in the blog. First, let’s have a quick glance at the examination pattern for the year.

CBSE Class 10 Examination Pattern

Term 1

Term 2

Based on the pandemic scenario at the time, the Board will decide the mode of examination. It can be either online or offline. As of now, both the terms contain 50% weightage. However, it can vary depending on the mode of the examination, and weightage for CBSE class 10 results 2022 will be decided accordingly.

Let us now look at the term-wise reduced syllabus for class 10 Math for the academic year 2021-2022.

Course Structure for CBSE Class 10 – Term 1

Although the MCQ questions look easy, it is very important to have a clear idea of the concepts to ace them. Because steps do not carry any marks in MCQs, there is no partial marks available. So, it is highly imperative that you double check your answers to each question so that you top the exam.

Considering this, we have listed down the chapter-wise reduced syllabus and important topics for the first term that CBSE class 10 students should focus on.

Number Systems

Co-ordinate Geometry

Chapter 7 – Co-ordinate Geometry

Coordinate Geometry is probably one of the easiest chapters in the entire CBSE class 10 syllabus. The fact that the Board has given a weightage of 15% to the chapter, that too with the reduced syllabus, adds the icing to the cake. Therefore, it is advisable for students to finish this chapter first and then move to others. The reduced syllabus for the chapter consists of the following topics:

Trigonometry

Chapter 8 – Introduction to Trigonometry

Once chapter 7 is complete, the concepts of Introduction to Trigonometry should be the focus of CBSE class 10 students. Students used to find the trigonometric identities part a bit difficult. But this year, the Board has further reduced the topics from the chapter. It has also eliminated the tough questions on trigonometric identities.

Term 1 examination will test the students’ understanding of the following topics.

Mensuration

What next?

Now that we know the revised syllabus, CBSE class 10 students should brace themselves up and start preparing for the term 1 exam. Because of the MCQ format this year, a complete understanding of the core concepts becomes more important. So, we would advise you to focus on only term-1 for now.

To start with, prepare a timeline and stick to it. Start learning the concepts from each chapter. Along with the concepts, practice questions chapter-wise. While solving, identify your strengths and weaknesses. This will help you during revision and evaluation.

For efficient preparation, you must evaluate yourself on a regular basis. Practice with questions from previous year papers and CBSE sample papers. Evaluate your answer sheets thoroughly. Scrutinize the questions for which you provided wrong responses or couldn’t answer. Don’t forget to quickly review those topics. While giving model exams and revision tests, test your speed and correctness. Most importantly, avoid stress and last-minute preparation.

To sum up, follow the timeline, focus on the concepts, solve an adequate number of questions from each chapter and you’ll sail through!

Best Wishes to all the students!
